This Privacy Policy describes how Fortify Learning ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website and our Maya mobile app (collectively, the "Service"). The Maya app helps you practice speaking a new language through short video lessons and pronunciation exercises. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

We may collect the following types of information:

• Account information: when you sign in to the app with email (magic link) or Sign in with Apple, we receive your email address and, if you provide one, your name. Your name is shown on community videos you choose to upload.
• Voice recordings: when you complete a speaking or pronunciation exercise in the app, we record your microphone audio and send it to third-party AI service providers (see Section 3) to transcribe your speech, score your pronunciation, and power the conversational tutor.
• Camera and video: if you record and submit a community video in the app, we capture video — which includes your face and voice — that you choose to upload.
• Learning preferences: the language you're learning, the language you want explanations in, and your progress within the app.
• Purchase information: if you subscribe to Premium, your payment is processed by Apple through your Apple Account. We do not receive your payment card details; we receive information about your subscription status (such as whether your subscription is active, in a trial period, or cancelled) so we can provide you with Premium features.
• Usage data: such as pages visited, features used, and the time and date of your activity on our website and in the app.
• Device and technical data: such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, and device identifiers.
• Cookies and similar technologies: used on our website to operate, secure, and improve the Service.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide core app features: transcribing and scoring your speech, generating tutor responses, and displaying community videos;
• Maintain your account and preferences;
• Communicate with you, including responding to inquiries and sending updates;
• Manage your Premium subscription and provide access to paid features;
• Monitor and analyze usage and trends, and use your interactions with the Service to operate, maintain, and improve the Service;
• Detect, prevent, and address technical or security issues; and
• Comply with legal obligations.

We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

3. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with vendors who process it on our behalf to run the Service:

• Supabase — authentication, database, and storage.
• ElevenLabs — speech transcription and text-to-speech.
• Google (Gemini) — generating tutor and lesson responses.
• Microsoft Azure Speech — pronunciation assessment.
• Bunny Stream — video hosting and delivery.
• Apple — Sign in with Apple and App Store subscription billing.

These providers are permitted to use your data only to deliver their service to us. We may also share information when required by law, to protect our rights, or in connection with a business transfer such as a merger or acquisition.

4. Data Retention and Deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from Profile → Delete Account in the app. Deletion removes your account, uploaded videos, and related records. Deleting your account does not cancel an active Premium subscription — you can cancel in your device's App Store subscription settings. You may also email us at privacy@fortifylearning.com to request deletion.

5. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information, and to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, please contact us using the details below.

6. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in the relevant jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. If the changes are material, we will provide notice through the app or by email before they take effect. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
